DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME! March 30, 2010

Recently I talked about prints and patterns and how fashionable they are these days. In my older post I talked about their actual and practical wearableness and how to strike the right balance of prints without going over all possible limits. Well, well, Mischa Barton has obviously not read my blog Here is what I could easily call ‘the prints and patterns disaster’ .. because she really is!

Don’t get me wrong here, i do love her and her OC performance. No matter how cute you are though, you can’t afford this  ”leopard plus everything else that could make me look EVER more awful” combination!

So what is wrong with her? Okay. I am quite sure it is indeed a lovely coat with even more lovely leopard prints. However, even my 16yrs old brother would point out that:

* leopard should not be combined with flower prints (i can see a flower printed dress hiding down there)

*pink/violet tights/leggings?? AND LEOPARD?        R-r-right!

*GREEN bag on top of all that? Hmmm.. I say ‘Hell NO’.

*I am sure you are guessing this one right – red lipstick + violet tights = ‘i am surely not saying hi to you next time i meet you on the street’..

Just for the record, I assume the photo has been taken while Mischa was on set.

Still, who would let some director or producer do this to them!?

I have been thinking and wondering how a necessity might suddenly become an accessory – exactly like a Ray Ban but that is another story.

This, indeed, is a wonderful thing for us ladies especially with regards to TIGHTS. Yeah, tights… once used by women mainly in winter and under clothes to keep them warm. Nowadays, we can finally look at them not only as necessary underwear but also as a tool to make a statement I so love this splendid fact. To be honest, I have started using daring colors and bold combinations just recently but I already can’t have enough of it. What about you?

I think words aren’t necessary so I will just let the picture hereunder speak for itself.

Finally, I urge you the following: I know the sun’s tempting and all.. but please,

SPRINGY flowers or stripes? March 16, 2010

Spring is coming! Are you ready for it?

Right when I thought I was ready, snows hit us from somewhere. But this uneventful happening simply gave us more time to prepare for the much awaited arrival of her Majesty The Spring And today I see the sun which is still very shy but manages to send the message intended: GET READY to throw all those heavy clothes!

I am so eager to throw mine away and get into some happy, colourful and loving-life clothes. As such I mainly have in mind flowers and stripes – obviously it is not just me but all major brands and designers with their new collections are clearly making a statement what spring inspiration is all about. The same way as flowers and trees and nature in general come back to life in spring, people come back to life with warmth and sun by completely changing their outfit – from grey and black it suddenly becomes HAPPY.

HAPPY is definitely the right word for me to describe this amazing transformation of patterns, colours and shapes of clothing pieces.

Do you love stripes? ‘Coz I love stripes! Sailor stripes have been here for quite a while but have mainly been associated with summer – sun, sea, ships, stripes This time around they are here to announce spring’s comeback.

I assume the message intended sounds like this: don’t wait for summer to come in order to have fun and wear something fun, DO IT NOW! Besides being fun to wear and damn good-looking, stripes have the ability to also flatter your figure when used accordingly – vertical ones make you look thinner and horizontal ones make you curvy. Nice and useful optical illusion, ha?

Flowers instead are the symbol of spring and rebirth. They are romantic and have the power of ‘crowding’ love and positivism in the air. What else could you possible need with our financial crisis in the background?!

I do have something even more important to say though; here it is: Dresses, dresses, dresses!

It comes as a shock to me to be a dresses supporter since I have been quite famous for my ‘dress alergy’ for years and years now. What is happening? I have come to the conclusion that the time when a girl starts craving dresses is the time when she is finally growing up to be a women – a feminine one Dresses are this piece of women’s wardrobe that is just so magical, so fairy tale-like. Let’s start our spring fairy tale, shall we ladies? Hereunder is what I have in mind. Don’t forget to tell me what you think!

I decided to kick off my attempt for a fashion blog with a view/discussion on the so controversial trend of the animal prints. Who doesn’t love them? But, on the other hand, who are those that do love them?

Some of you will be quite surprised of my claim that animal prints are controversial since it had been around for some time now and it had established itself as a fashionable trend and not just a fad. However, there are those little countries where the majority of people follow trends using other than the worlds fashion capitals’ catwalks sources. It is there where controversy sparks off.

The proponents of animal prints on/as clothes say they are bold, sexy and fun. The opponents, on the other side, say that it is just ‘too much’. Which side do you belong to? To me, there seem to be considerable sense in both these statements.

Whether you like the trend or not you have to admit that it is exotic. However, it too can sometimes hurt the eye if its exoticness is too imposing. The conclusion I have reached for myself is that I do love animal prints but they have to be used with caution and one needs to be aware of the right quantity of them. How much is enough?

Animal printed top, belt, bag, shoes – these used on their own are exactly enough to cast that mysterious spell over you and will ensure you obtain an envious amount of eyes staring at your print. At the end, this is the correct purpose of an animal print – to get you noticed. It goes without saying then that these kinds of prints are not suitable for shy or willing to mix with the crowd individuals.

Let us not forget that almost every rule in life has its exceptions. Same goes for animal prints – exceptions to the rule of ‘keep it bold but non-imposing’ do exist and I will use the chance to show you what these exceptions are to me with pictures rather than words:)

Finally, if you love a trend, don’t be afraid to show this love to the world. If you love animal prints, embrace them and determine for yourself what is right and wrong when it comes to quantity and then .. go get ready to be the star of the night!
